The following duties are considered essential for this job classification:
1. Greet and assist seniors in a friendly and professional manner, answering questions and requests.
2. Creating and utilizing a budget and overseeing and managing all expenses to maximize activities for La Jolla’s 55 and better community.
3. Establishing weekly, monthly, and seasonal activities. These activities could include lunches with a craft or bingo, overnight trips, day trips to museums or cultural events, and visits to neighboring states.
4. Create a calendar of events with at least a month’s notice for each activity.
5. Plan visits and day trips that are accommodating to active seniors and those with physical limitations.
6. Create flyers, newsletters, and announcements using Publisher, Adobe, etc.
7. Overseeing the Senior Center building, making sure the facility is clean and secure and that the rules and policies for use are followed. Also responsible for coordinating any building maintenance that will occur. Daily light housekeeping is a must.
8. Setting up and creating an email and phone list of participants.
9. Marketing and being active in informing the community about upcoming events. May have to present to the General Council from time to time. Meetings are scheduled every other month on a Saturday and sometimes will be postponed to Sunday (rarely).
10. Organizing and creating signup sheets for events and sending out reminders via phone and emails to those who are signed up
11. Soliciting potential discounts for visits to activities that may have an admission cost.
12. Knowing and researching all neighboring Tribal Activities hosted by other reservations.
13. Set up transportation for events/activities.
14. Willing to operate a 15-passenger van.
15. Currently, a clean driving record is a must.
16. Contact instructors and teachers for special classes and set up contracts for service with them before presenting contracts to the Council.
17. Communicate with La Jolla’s 55 and better community to develop activities and trips.
18. Be diplomatic in decision-making with emphasis on making the right choices for the served community
19. Shopping and picking up supplies and food.
20. Working with restaurants to set up meals for larger and special events
21. Follow financial policies when making any purchases or payments.
22. Setting up for events and activities. This will include preparing a sign-in sheet, setting up food and drink, and placing out supplies.
23. Must be willing to stay after events to clean up. This will include putting food away, wiping down tables, and clearing out trash.
24. Building relationships with the senior community.
25. Communicating effectively with members, their families, and the community to promote the activities and events.
26. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians’ senior activities.
1. A high school diploma or GED is required.
2. Previous experience in coordinating senior recreational activities and customer service.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior community members.
4. Basic office applications and computer skills.
5. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
6. A commitment to promoting the cultural heritage and values of the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians and a dedication to providing a positive and enjoyable experience.
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
Senior services coordinators spend long hours sitting or standing. Ideal candidates can handle moderate emotional strain when interacting with elderly community members.
