The following duties are considered essential for this job classification:
1. Patrol the La Jolla Indian Reservation to enforce tribal laws and protect the life and property of tribal members.
2. Detain violators of tribal laws, state of California law, and Federal law
3. Surveillance work
4. Assist in the execution of writs and court orders
5. Prepare reports
6. Testify in the San Diego Superior Court, Tribal Court, and Federal Court
7. Handle any disorderly conduct
8. Drug surveillance and/or related problems in the community
9. Interacting with and mentoring tribal youth
1. At least five years’ experience as a sworn Peace Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency. Graduation from a California P.O.S.T. Police Academy.
2. Certified Law Enforcement Agency.
3. Applicant must have a current valid Driver’s License
4. Ability to pass a stringent background and credit check. Also, they must not have been convicted of a felony and not have a misdemeanor conviction of crimes involving public trust, domestic violence, battery, child abuse, or crimes under the color of authority.
5. High School Diploma / GED required.
6. Ability to drive and operate a winch on a 4×4 vehicle.
7. Knowledge of law enforcement practices and procedures and applicable tribal, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations; familiar with PL280.
8. Knowledge of community-based policing principles and practices.
9. Skill in managing situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and impartially.
10. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with tribal members and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
11. CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
12. Must have computer skills (Microsoft Word)
13. Must be able to work holidays, split shifts, nights, and weekends
14. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
15. Mandatory drug testing required
16. Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

The Tribal Council may consider and waive certain qualifications based on an evaluation of the experience of the individual applicant.
