Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities

The following duties are considered essential for this job classification:

1. Oversee and perform regular maintenance and servicing of the resort’s rental fleet, ensuring that all bikes are in excellent working condition and meet safety standards.

2. Diagnose and repair customer bicycles, addressing issues related to components, suspension, drivetrain, brakes, and other systems, while providing exceptional customer service.

3. Manage the bike repair workshop, maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment, and ensuring that all tools and equipment are in proper working order.

4. Train and mentor junior mechanics and other bike shop staff on best practices in bike maintenance and repair.

5. Assist customers with technical questions and concerns, offering expert advice and recommendations based on their needs and preferences.

6. Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance tasks, and parts inventory, and provide regular reports to management as needed.

7. Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and developments in the mountain biking industry, including new products, technologies, and maintenance techniques.

8. Collaborate with other resort staff to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for all guests, while prioritizing safety and satisfaction.

9. Assist with special events and promotions, such as bike demos, group rides, and races, as needed.

10. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians’ mountain bike resort operations.

11. Ability to work 10-hour shifts on a 4-day work week.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education or certification in a related field, such as bicycle mechanics or engineering, is a plus.

2. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a professional bicycle mechanic, with a strong background in mountain bike maintenance and repair.

3. Expert knowledge of mountain bike components, systems, and tools, with a commitment to staying current on industry trends and developments.

4. Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and staff from diverse backgrounds.

5. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

6. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work.

7. A commitment to promoting the cultural heritage and values of the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians, and a dedication to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all resort guests and staff.
